Romania’s Central Bank Raises Interest Rate to 9%

Romania’s central bank BNR raised its benchmark interest rate one point, the third consecutive increase, as inflation threatens to accelerate and the local currency weakens. The central bank increased its Monetary Policy Rate to 9 percent, the highest since 2005, from 8 percent, the bank said in an announcement today.

Slovenian stocks fell on Friday, bowing to selling pressure, even though optimism returned to most European markets, brokers said. The SBITOP index of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE) was down 1.61% to close at 2,237.28 points, and the broader 15-share SBI20 index decreased 1.34% to 10,102.99 points.
