Retail sales in the U.S. unexpectedly rose in January, easing concern that the world’s largest economy has already slipped into a recession. Archer-Daniel Midlands Co.’s fiscal second-quarter profit jumped 7% from a year ago as services for trading and transportation grain offset lower ethanol prices.
